D. Justin Compton is currently the Director of Bands at Dauphin Jr. High School in Enterprise, Alabama. He attended Troy University, where he earned his Bachelor of Music Education degree. He then served as a graduate teaching assistant at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where he earned a Master of Arts in Education. Recently, Mr. Compton completed an Education Specialist degree in Instructional Leadership from Troy University.

Mr. Compton is in his fourteenth year as a music educator. Prior to serving at Dauphin, he was the Director of Bands at Zion Chapel School in Jack, Alabama, where he served for six years. While at Zion Chapel, the band program consistently received Superior ratings at the Alabama State Music Performance Assessment and regional marching festivals. Bands at Zion Chapel also performed at the National World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C., Universal Studios Florida, and the Alamo in San Antonio, Texas.

While serving at Dauphin Jr. High School for the past six years, Mr. Compton has overseen the evolution of the band program to include two concert ensembles, homogeneous beginning band instruction, and a curricular jazz ensemble. Working closely with Mrs. Sophia Compton, Director of Bands at Coppinville Jr. High School, he oversees the curriculum and recruitment for Junior High Bands in Enterprise City Schools. Under his direction, the Dauphin Jr. High School Symphonic Band was invited to perform at the 2024 Alabama Music Educators’ Association Conference, a first for the Dauphin Band.

Mr. Compton has served on the Executive Board of the Alabama Bandmasters Association as District VIII Chairman. His professional affiliations include the National Association for Music Education, Alabama Music Educators Association, Alabama Bandmasters Association, National Band Association, and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia. He was named Teacher of the Year at Dauphin Jr. High School in 2024 and has also been the recipient of the National Band Association’s Citation of Excellence.

Mr. Compton currently resides in Enterprise with his wife, Sophia, and their twins, Oliver and Clover.
